Cable Guy Stops Abduction in Minneapolis

Ex-girlfriend abducted outside Patrick Henry HS

Just before the start of class Tuesday morning, a man abducted his ex-girlfriend as she was dropped off outside Patrick Henry High School in north Minneapolis

"She got a ride to school and when she got out of her car, her old boyfriend pulled up, grabbed her, pulled her into his car and took off," Minneapolis police Sgt. Jesse Garcia said.

Police said the ex-boyfriend drove south for several miles before the girl got out of the car while they were stuck in traffic on Cedar Lake Parkway, near France Ave.

That's when a group of Good Samaritans flagged down cable guy Jason Hoff. Despite the onlookers, Hoff said the man was insistent on getting the girl back in his car. Hoff said the man punched the girl repeatedly as they struggled on the side of the road.

"That's when I just kind of stepped in, pulled him off of her and from there he said, 'It's my wife'," Hoff said. "And I said I don't care if it's your wife or not, you're not going to be hitting her. He just kind of stopped, looked at me, crawled up front and tried to drive away."

The suspect hit Hoff's work vehicle as he drove off, with the open door striking him in the leg. As the young girl tried to grab for her belongings, the former repo man says it was pure adrenaline as he pulled her back.

"I was just at the right place at the right time and glad I could do something to help," Hoff said.

The victim was taken to North Memorial Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. Police have identified the suspect and plan to pick him up for questioning. The man could face possible kidnapping charges.
