EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - Many people are going back to school in this tough economy, but the cost of college keeps rising.

A new online school is trying to help families save money. Straighterline.com is offering freshman courses for less. By the time you complete all the courses, you've paid less than $1,000.

Straighter line offers college algebra, english composition, accounting 101 and more. The curriculum was written by college professors and is considered a quality education.

Because it only offers some courses it has agreements with other colleges to give credit to the student when they are done with the course.

It's approved by the American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service and is connected to seven colleges now and adding five more in the next few weeks.

A tutor is available 24 hours a day online. For 99 dollars a month plus 39 dollars per course, families pinching pennies are drawn to this option.

CEO Burck Smith, says "the ability to get and take on loans has dimished for lots of families, so families are open to looking at cost effective solutions to college as well as paying out of pocket as opposed to putting it on debt."
