New Randolph Ave. headquarters needs name

Published : Monday, 12 Oct 2009, 1:23 PM CDT

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Paul Fire Department is looking for a name for its new headquarters under construction on Randolph Avenue. The new headquarters, which is expected to be in operation by the end of the year, is attached to Fire Station No. 1 at 1000 W. 7th Street.

If you have an idea for the building's name, you can submit a one page or less proposal to Cindy Mentes by email at cindy.mentes@ci.stpaul.mn.us or by mail to 100 E. 11th St., 55101, by October 30, 2009.

The nominations should:

  • Reflect the historic nature of the St. Paul Fire Department and its service to the community.

  • Have significant meaning to the department, the city, and the West Seventh Community.

  • (If named for an individual) reflect that person’s strong advocacy to the men and women of the St. Paul Fire Department.

  • (If named for a member of the fire department) reflect the traditions and values of the St. Paul Fire Department and the American Fire Service.

A team from the fire department, the mayor's office, Council Member Dave Thune and a representative of the Fort Road Federation will choose three finalists which will eb voted on by the fire department. The new name will take effect on Dec. 1.

The new Fire Station No. 1 will replace two old fire stations: Station No. 1 at 296 West Seventh Street, and Station No. 10 at 754 Randolph Avenue. With the opening of the new fire station, the number of St. Paul fire stations will be reduced from 16 to 15.
