BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Meghan Bergman seriously injured herself at a high school gymnastics meet. Friends and family are trying to raise money for rising medical bills.
Bergman's ability is just one notch below Olympic level.
"It's kind of like my life. I've been doing it since I was four, it's my sport it's what I do, and it’s who I am," said Bergman.
But it's been two months since she's competed.
At 15 years old, Bergman suffered from a life-altering injury.
Bergman was competing in Arizona when she broke both her legs on the landing.
Bergman also developed compartment syndrome and almost lost her right foot.
In all, she has undergone 10 surgeries, spent nearly two months in hospitals and still has no feeling in her right ankle.
"Sometimes I feel like it hasn't hit me that this happened to me."
Her coach, Byron Hough calls Bergman’s injury a freak accident.
"I've been in the sport 30 years and never had seen an injury of this magnitude," said Hough. A fundraiser was help to raise money for escalating medical bills that could top a half a million dollars.
And while doctors don't know if she'll ever get the feeling back in her foot, Bergman vows not to give up her hopes and dreams of competing again.
"I know that God has a plan for me and this happened for a reason and he'll keep me safe and I know I'll be able to walk again and I can do gymnastics."
