A police chase through the Twin Cities northwest metro ended in a crash at Interstate 494 and Interstate 394 around 10:15 a.m. Friday.
The chase began in the area of Interstate 694 and Highway 169, where the suspect was driving erratically and speeding.
The pursuit came to an end when the suspect driver exited I-494 and attempted to pass a driver on the shoulder while merging onto I-394 in Minnetonka.
The SUV lost control on the side of the road, moving across all lanes of traffic before crashing into a concrete barrier near Plymouth Road.
The suspect vehicle caught fire shortly after the stop, with flames shooting from the SUV and black smoke rising above the scene of the crash. The fire was under control by 10:45 a.m.
The driver, Michael Antoine Devine, was arrested after the crash on suspicion of fleeing. Charges are expected to be filed soon.
Police said he tried to elude officers because he has warrants for his arrest in Hennepin, Dakota and Sherburne counties for failure to pay child support.
No injuries were reported. There are currently no reports of any other occupants in the suspect vehicle.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is the lead agency on the investigation.
