Mpls Begins Election Hand Count Wednesday

Published : Tuesday, 03 Nov 2009, 6:20 PM CST

The city of Minneapolis will begin hand counting the ballots from Tuesday’s election on Wednesday.

The first results are likely to be available late next week. The count will continue six days a week, and the entire count for all races is expected to be complete by December 21.

On Tuesday night, results of the first, second and third choice rankings will be posted on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s webpage.

If no candidate receives the required number of votes to be elected after the first round of counting, a process of eliminating candidates and considering subsequent choices begins.

This election will mostly likely be just as expensive or more costly as the old way of doing things with a primary and Election Day vote. The cost is around $220,000.
