41 Minneapolis Officers Laid Off

MINNEAPOLIS - Minneapolis announced Monday that 41 officer will be laid off by the end of the year due to budget cuts.

Sixteen of those officers will be eliminated through attrition; 19 will be out of new recruits and six sworn in officers will be laid off.

The new recruits are set to graduate this Friday. They will be hired, then laid off by Christmas.

Crime in Minneapolis has been down 39 percent.

The head of the police union blames the department and says the layoffs are a panic button for poor budget planning.
