Man Charged in S. Mpls Fatal Hit-and-Run

MINNEAPOLIS - A man was charged in the fatal hit-and-run that occurred last Thursday in South Minneapolis.

David Lund, 22, has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide of Emiliano Camilo Hernandez.

The accident happened at the 3100 block of Minnehaha Avenue South.

According to the criminal complaint, officers from responded to a serious accident near the intersection of East 31st Street and Minnehaha Ave S. Upon arrival at the scene they found Hernandez, lying in the street. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses near the scene observed a midsized SUV traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to and after hitting the victim.

The following day Lund turned himself into investigators after hearing media reports of the incident. Lund admitted to being the driver of the suspect SUV the previous evening.

Lund is in custody at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Facility. Bail has been set at $75,000. A booking photo is available.
