EDINA, Minn. - An Edina man was arrested for stealing a Maserati from a Minnetonka dealership in September.
According to police, on August 11, Jeffery Wells, 34, visited Morrie's Maserati in Minnetonka, saying he wanted to buy one. The salesman thinks when he left his office, Wells took a spare key. Later, Wells changed his mind, saying he wasn't going to buy a car that day.
On September 21, nearly six weeks after, Morrie's reported a a Maserati Quattroporte worth more than $123,000 stolen.
On Monday, November 16, Edina police went to Wells’ home to investigate reports of bad checks and a falsified job application. In the open garage, police saw the Maserati and a Chevy Suburban, both of which were reported stolen.
Initially, Wells said he was doing work on the Maserati for Morrie's. Police say Wells was cooperative until he realized police knew the cars were stolen.
In the console of the Maserati, police found keys to five other cars -- a BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and two Audis.
Jeffrey Wells is now in jail.
