Group Releases List of Unsafe Holiday Toys

Published : Tuesday, 24 Nov 2009, 10:14 PM CST

With the holiday shopping season just around the corner, parents are on the look out for just the right presents for their kids. But it’s tough knowing which toys on the holiday wish lists are safe.

The U.S. Public Interest Group is out with its annual list of dangerous toys . The Kota and Pals Stompers Triceratops by Playskool made the top of the list. It is much louder than the 85 decibels allowed by law.

Followed closely is Knights Helmet made by Dollar Tree that has lead paint that can go medieval on a child’s head.

The Toy Story Pizzaria by Mattel doesn't just have small parts that can be swallowed by a child. It doesn't have a label warning parents to keep it away from young children.

An easy way for parents to tell if a small toy is a choking hazard for your kids is to find an empty toilet paper roll. If the toy fits into the roll, it’s probably not safe for children under three.

The group has created a special website for smart phone users with lists of dangerous and recalled toys so parents can make better decisions while they're out shopping at the store.
