MINNEAPOLIS - Former University of Minnesota football player Dominic Jones was denied multiple requests for exceptions in his sentence by a Hennepin County Judge following his Friday release from the county workhouse.

Jones asked for permission to travel out of state while completing his probation period. Also, Jones requested not to complete the sex-offender treatment program.

On the requests, Judge Rosenbaum insisted on "treating this as any other matter…(Jones) must continue the program."

Dominic Jones was sentenced in Hennepin County cour for a fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct conviction. Jones is sentenced to 1 year in the Hennepin County Workhouse, a stayed 48-month prison sentence, and 7 years probation.

Jones will also have to register as a sex offender.

Judge Rosenbaum said Jones operated in a culture of entitlement and he hopes Jones will take advantage of the community programs that he is ordered to participate in.

Jones will begin serving his time in the workhouse before July 7.

In April, jurors returned a split verdict for the former University of Minnesota football player. Jones was acquitted of the more serious rape charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, which involved penetration. Jones was found guilty of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, or unwanted sexual contact.

Jones assaulted an 18-year-old woman who prosecutors say was too drunk to give consent. The sex act was recorded on cell phone video, which was presented as evidence in the case.

Jones' defense attorney Earl Gray says they've already started the appeals process and they intend to get the conviction reversed.
