12 Arrested in Dinkytown Riot

MINNEAPOLIS - Twelve people were arrested and jailed after Minneapolis police break up a riot in Dinkytown Saturday.

The students arrested are Jeffrey Frederickson, Jonathon Rokser, Joseph Moy, Jacob Kerwin and Peter Robbins.

Duran Cooley, Jacob Kersting, Gerald Nussmeier, Nicholas Owens, Adam Russell and Kyle Martin were arrested in the riots. They are not University of Minnesota students.

Frederickson was the first arrest of the night.

He told FOX 9 over the phone that police were out of line. He said that he was not involved in the rioting, and police arrested him after opening his first beer.

It began at 14th and 7th Streets around 8 p.m., where students were celebrating the annual Spring Jam block party.

Nearly 60 officers had to wear helmets and gas masks as they fought off an estimated 500 partying students who were throwing beer bottles, rocks and other debris at them. Students were also starting fires in the middle of the street.

Police had to use a chemical spray to get the crowd under control.

No officers or students were seriously hurt during the riot.
