Brooklyn Park Salon Recycles Hair

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. - Taj Salon and Spa in Brooklyn Park, Minn. is making an effort to recycle in every aspect of the salon business.

Taj has recently started recycling foils used in the hair coloring process. Salon employees save the foils used on every client. After two weeks, an employee will take about thirty pounds worth of foils to a recycling center in St. Paul.

The salon is also recycling customers’ hair left on the salon floor. The hair is sent to a company in California which turns it into a “hair mat”.

The mats are used to soak up oil spills. Taj Business Partner Tasia Ashton says the response from customers has been extremely positive. Ashton says, “customers love it, it makes them feel like they’re doing their part.”
