SAINT PAUL, Minn. - House democrats on Capitol Hill are working to nail down the votes they'll need to pass their version of the healthcare reform bill, calling it an historic opportunity to provide quality healthcare for all Americans. Meanwhile, Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann is taking center stage in conservatives’ efforts to "kill the bill".
Waving flags and carrying signs showing their frustration over proposed health care reform, 10,000 protesters descended on Capitol Hill to "scare" lawmakers into voting against the house version of the health care reform bill.
The rally was the brainchild of Bachmann, who called on tea party members to confront their legislators about voting for the bill like they did during those contentious town hall meetings across the country in august.
Despite her polarizing politics, Bachmann has become a cult hero of the right, second only in popularity within the party to Sarah Palin.
But democrats are getting some support of their own for the $1.2 trillion bill that would give health care coverage to 96 percent of all Americans.
President Barack Obama announced key endorsements by the American Medical Association and AARP which represents some 40 million seniors and he planned a rare visit to the house on Friday to convince undecided democrats.
