MINNEAPOLIS - It’s billed as one of the biggest open-studio art crawls of its kind in the nation — “Art-a-Whirl.”
With some 500 artists flinging their studio doors open to you, the adoring public, we’re inclined to believe them.
Art-a-Whirl takes over Northeast Minneapolis Friday, May 14th through Sunday, May 16th.
There are many ways to experience Art-a-Whirl. You can check out the major buildings stuffed with studios, like Northrup King, the California Building and Thorp Building.
You can go to “stand-alone” studios like bronze sculptor Nick Legeros’ Blue Ribbon Bronze, at 84 14th Ave. NE. If you’re lucky, you’ll see Nick work on his bigger-than-life-sized sculpture of Sid Hartman, which will appear in downtown Minneapolis someday soon. www.nikosculpture.com
Then again, some studios aren’t studios. Blaze your own Art-a-Whirl trail by checking out the art at “Foiled Again” salon, at 2807 Johnson St. NE. There, Faith Farrell is exhibiting her pop-artish work called “Clip & Redeem.” Faith says she’s fascinated by retro coupons and consumer products, and how our need to cut a deal never goes out of style. www.faithfarrell.com
