MINNEAPOLIS - A shooting ten years again Minneapolis changed the way police departments across the state respond to people with mental illness.

On June 12, 2000, police were called to the home of Barbara Schneider. Schneider was a well-known community activist, who suffered from a bipolar disorder.
She charged at the officers with a knife. They shot and killed her.

Today, the foundation, which is named in her honor, works with police departments to prevent these kinds of tragedies.
