EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day — a day when people all over the country can learn about and complete an Advance Directive which is a legal document that allows individuals to express the type of treatment they do or do not want in the event they cannot speak for themselves. But only 15-20 percent of Americans have an Advance Directive…very few even know it is.
Fox Medical Expert, Dr. Archelle Georgiou, ask people what they know about Advance Directives and then offers her expertise on why it is so important that everyone have one.
In Minnesota, the Governor as well as the Mayors of Minneapolis and St Paul have formally made Friday, April 16, Healthcare Decisions Day. There are over 30 hospitals, senior centers, community centers, churches, health insurers, law firms, and law schools where attorneys and health care professionals are donating their time to provide individuals with the opportunity to communicate and document their health care wishes in the event they are unable to speak for themselves.
