MINNEAPOLIS - There are certain things you can do to attract the most attention and get people to stay and check out all your garage sale.
First, it's a good idea to coordinate with your neighbors. If you can have multiple sales on the same block you'll attract more attention and get more people to your house.
Also, the more stuff you put out, the better, just a few items won't be enough to get people to stick around.
Advertising is important, post your sale on Craigslist and then make sure your signs are simple. Just the word "sale" is good and an arrow pointing to your house, don't worry about putting the address or times.
Make sure everything looks clean, no one wants to buy your junk if it actually looks like junk. And give a nice greeting to patrons, but don't hover over them.
"Another thing you'll want to do, especially if you're willing to barter, is say -- we take offers or make your best offer,” Carrie Rocha of PocketYourDollars.com said. “We're Minnesota nice around here and even though we know we can bargain on a price, most people won't."
It’s very important to price everything and don't just put everything at one table for a dollar. If you want to recruit some kids to do a lemonade stand in front of the home it keeps people lingering longer.
Also, organize your clothes and household items separately, just like a store. And hang clothes up, don't just lay them on a table.
