Tom Butler grew up in the Olympia area of Washington State. He knew early on he wanted to be a broadcaster, and co-founded the student-run radio station at his high school. During college, Tom worked professionally in radio as a disc-jockey and as a news reporter. He's a proud alumnus of the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University. Tom's nearly 20 year career in television news began in Tri-Cities, Washington.

While working in Reno, Tom met his wife, Blair.  The newlyweds moved to Rochester, NY, where Tom was the primary anchor at the FOX affiliate.  It was Rochester where Ally, the couple’s oldest daughter, was born.  Soon after, the trio moved to Memphis and welcomed Grace. Tom’s excited to be in the Twin Cities, where his great grandfather, Franklin Breitkreitz, lived from birth through his teen years.

Tom is an award-winning journalist, taking home honors for his reporting and anchoring from The Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press.  Tom also anchored the newscast that won an Emmy for "Best Newscast."

If you notice, Tom does a lot of smiling on the Fox 9 Morning News. Tom says that's because he is happy to be here. He loves the beauty of our area and the great people of Minnesota. Tom says he and his family are thrilled to be Minnesotans!
